This week, Town Council signed a proclamation declaring March 6 as “St. Baldrick’s Day” in Marana. A “Defy Childhood Cancer” fundraising event for St. Baldrick’s Foundation is being held at Mountain View High School on Friday, March 6, 2020, from 5:00 - 9:00 pm.
Cancer is the number one disease killer of children and young adults in the United States, with a child being diagnosed with cancer worldwide every two minutes but only 4% of federal cancer funding goes directly to childhood cancer research. St. Baldrick’s Foundation is the largest funder of childhood cancer research grants outside of the United States government. Through head-shaving events, partnerships, and advocacy initiatives, the primary focus of the St. Baldrick’s Foundation is to have the greatest impact for kids with cancer around the world. Shaving heads is a visible demonstration of solidarity with those who have lost their hair to cancer treatment.
By declaring March 6 as St. Baldrick’s Day in Marana, the Town of Marana commends the efforts of the “Be Bold Go Bald” team and urge citizens to familiarize themselves with this program, and offer support for the activities associated with St. Baldrick’s Foundation.
