TRAFFIC ALERT: I-10 exit ramps, Cortaro Road to close overnight May 24-25 for pavement, striping improvements

Interchange will open in a new lane configuration the morning of Wednesday, May 26

Portions of the Interstate 10/Cortaro Road interchange in Tucson are scheduled to close overnight Monday, May 24, and Tuesday, May 25, for pavement and striping improvements.

Work is scheduled each night between 8 p.m. and 5 a.m.

During these hours, the I-10 exit ramps to Cortaro Road will close, and Cortaro Road will close to all traffic beneath I-10. To cross I-10, all motorists will need to use an alternate route such as Twin Peaks or Ina roads.

On Monday night (May 24), all traffic on westbound Cortaro Road will be directed to the westbound I-10 frontage road/on-ramp, and all traffic on eastbound Cortaro Road will be directed to the eastbound I-10 frontage road/on-ramp.

Starting the morning of Wednesday, May 26, the westbound Cortaro Road traffic lanes near the interchange will open in a new configuration, as the shared through-left movement under I-10 will be separated. The new lane configuration will allow for improved traffic signal operations.

The paving and striping work is being coordinated with pavement preservation work being completed by the town of Marana.

Drivers should proceed through the work zone with caution, slow down and watch for construction personnel and equipment.

Pavement repairs along McDuff Road between Grier Road and the eastbound I-10 frontage road will take place beginning on Wednesday, July 24. Crews will be milling, repaving, and re-striping a short section of the roadway just north of the Grier/McDuff Intersection. Additionally, improvements will be made to the surface drainage conditions along the east side of the north half of the roadway. Workers will be present from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. All work is expected to be completed by the end of the week.

During the project, through-traffic along McDuff Road will be prohibited. Directional signs and traffic control devices will be set up to detour traffic around the work area. Access for local residents will be maintained at all times.

For your safety and that of the contractor’s personnel, please comply with all traffic control devices, flagging personnel, and/or detour signs. Travel time through the project area may increase during construction so please adjust your schedule accordingly. Construction may restrict traffic lanes and create congestion. Taking alternate routes is suggested.
