Travel Alert: Eastbound Interstate 10 closed at Ina Road overnight June 17

Eastbound Interstate 10 between Ina and Orange Grove roads is scheduled to close overnight Monday, June 17, for overhead message sign work. All traffic must exit and will be detoured onto the eastbound frontage road between 10 p.m. Monday and 5 a.m. Tuesday, June 18. 

Ina and Orange Grove roads will also close to all through-traffic at I-10 during those hours.

Motorists who need to cross I-10 should use Cortaro or Sunset roads or Ruthrauff Road/El Camino del Cerro during the closure.

Drivers should expect the following additional restrictions:

• Westbound Ina Road will close at the I-10 interchange. All traffic will be directed to the westbound I-10 entrance ramp. Motorists will not have access to eastbound I-10.

• Eastbound Ina Road will close to traffic at Starcommerce Way.  All traffic must turn left onto Starcommerce Way (except for traffic to local businesses), and all vehicles will be directed to the eastbound frontage road.

• Westbound Orange Grove Road will close at the I-10 interchange. All traffic will be directed to the westbound I-10 entrance ramp. Motorists will not have access to eastbound I-10.

• Vehicles on eastbound I-10 will not have access to eastbound Ina Road or eastbound Orange Grove Road.

• Vehicles on westbound I-10 will not have access to westbound Ina Road or westbound Orange Grove Road.

Law enforcement officers will help direct traffic during the closure.

Traffic Alert: Ina Beautification

Southern Arizona Paving, in conjunction with the Town of Marana, will be installing monuments in the median at each end of the boundaries of the Ina Road Beautification project beginning Monday, June 17th and ending by Wednesday, June 19th.  Traffic lanes next to the median will be closed in each direction of travel at both locations.

One monument is located west of Ulene Place and the other monument is on the west side of the Canyon Del Oro Wash Bridge. Work hours are from 6:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

For your safety and that of the contractor’s personnel, please comply with traffic control devices, flagging personnel, and/or detour signs.

Travel time through the project area may increase during construction so please adjust your schedule accordingly. Construction will restrict traffic lanes and may create congestion. Taking alternate routes is suggested.

Motorists who use Interstate 10 near Ina Road should expect overnight lane closures and possible delays Wednesday, June 12, through Friday, June 14, for striping work.

The following lane restrictions will be in place from 8 each night to 5 the following morning:

• Westbound I-10 will be reduced to a single lane on Wednesday, June 12. Drivers on eastbound I-10 may also encounter intermittent lane restrictions.

• Eastbound I-10 will be reduced to a single lane on Thursday, June 13.

• Eastbound and westbound I-10 will have intermittent lane closures on Friday, June 14.

The Arizona Department of Transportation has reopened the exit ramp from westbound Interstate 10 to Orange Grove Road. The ramp was closed as part of the Ina Road interchange project to improve safety for vehicles during peak travel times.

In addition, crews have opened Ina Road to four lanes between I-10 and Camino de las Capas. Lane restrictions on Ina Road west of I-10 will lessen over the next few weeks as crews complete final work in that area.

On Saturday, May 4 the Town of Marana, the Marana Chamber of Commerce, the Regional Transportation Authority, and and a collection of Ina Road businesses came together for the Ina Road Celebration Weekend. The event was a celebration of the completion of three major road projects on Ina Road.

The weekend began with a business expo and cake cutting ceremony that included speeches by Marana Town Manager Jamsheed Mehta, ADOT District Engineer Rod Lane, Marana Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Audra Winters, RTA Chair Mike Hammond, and Marana Mayor Ed Honea.

The rest of the weekend saw local businesses host a variety of events, including block parties, concerts, pony rides, and Kentucky Derby Parties.

The Ina Road Interchange project is in its final stages. The bridge that extends Ina over I-10 and the Union Pacific Railroad tracks is completed and the on and off ramps are open. Additionally the Town of Marana and the RTA teamed up to expand Ina west of the freeway to four lanes, which included building two new bridges over the Santa Cruz River. The Town of Marana has also completed the bulk of the work on the Ina Road Beautification Project, which completely milled and repaved Ina Road, added new sidewalks and ADA safety improvements, and added improved landscaping.

Manager's Message: Ina Road corridor celebrates re-opening

Most of the work on the Ina Road Interchange Project has been completed.

Every month Marana Town Manager Jamsheed Mehta provides a Manager’s Message to the Marana News. This month the topic is the Ina Road corridor.

This weekend, the Town of Marana will welcome the community to the improved Ina Road corridor at the “Ina Road Celebration Weekend” on May 4 and 5. The public will be treated to a kick-off ceremony May 4 at 9 a.m. with Town council and guests from Arizona Department of Transportation, Regional Transportation Authority and Marana Chamber of Commerce, and will be held at the Lowe’s Home Improvement parking lot near the Ina and Thornydale intersection. 

Ina Road Celebration Weekend begins Saturday, May 4.

Businesses will then celebrate with a weekend-long block party, where everyone is encouraged to shop local and support their neighborhood businesses along the Ina Road corridor. I greatly encourage members of the public to join in the celebration as we look on with pride at what this region has accomplished together. 

ADOT’s Ina Road Interchange project involved rerouting local street access away from the interstate in order to reconstruct an entirely new interchange that stretches over both the interstate and the Union Pacific railroad tracks. This eliminated at-grade crossings and widened both Interstate-10 and Ina Road, effectively making the area safer and more accommodating for continued growth. 

The Town’s Ina Road Beautification project was done in conjunction with the Ina Road Interchange project in an effort to improve portions of Ina Road. The repaving project includes landscaping along both sides of the road and in the center median, and adding street lights and traffic signal improvements. Now, when people drive down this corridor, their first impression of our community and businesses will be a positive one. 

Projects such as these are tedious for everyone during times of construction, but the payoff is clear once the dust has settled. Improved infrastructure serves as the literal foundation for a healthy community.  

Marana has experienced a surge in growth in recent years, projecting consistently as one of the fastest growing communities in southern Arizona. In 2018, over 800 new single-family resident homes were built in our community. By our calculations, this means approximately 2,300 new people moved to Marana, bringing our overall population to exceed 47,000 people. 

Marana is a much larger town than it was a decade ago, and large projects like the Ina Road Interchange and Ina Road Beautification Project serve to help support the community we will become in the future. Now, as we end this 2-year construction period, our focus is on revitalizing our affected business community. 

The “Ina Road Celebration Weekend” kicks this effort off with a bang, and I look forward to joining the businesses as they welcome the community back to the corridor.

Paving complete on Ina Road

Paving is complete on Ina Road.

The paving portion of the Ina Beautification Project has been completed. The final mainline pave was the final step of the project that included a complete milling and repaving of the Ina Road and several side streets in the area.

Traffic control markers will remain in place through next week, though all lane restrictions and road closures have ceased.

Town of Marana crews will stripe and paint the roadways next week, but there will be no road closures or expected delays. Next month new light poles will be installed, but traffic restrictions are expected to be minimal. 

The Ina Beautification Project was a comprehensive beautification/improvement project is designed to make the area even more appealing for customers now that the Ina Interchange is accessible again.

Town of Marana did a complete mill and fill of the asphalt on both Ina Road and Aerie Road. All Town streets north of Ina Road, except Camino de Oeste, will have a surface treatment added.

Landscaping was added to bring additional color and plant life along the corridor. New street lights, sidewalks, and accessibility ramps will improve safety and visibility.

Eastbound Interstate 10 frontage road near Ina Road returns to one-way configuration April 21

The eastbound Interstate 10 frontage road between Cortaro and Ina roads will revert to to a one-way road starting the night of Sunday, April 21.

The frontage road will be narrowed to a single lane so crews can work on the slopes between eastbound I-10 and the eastbound frontage road.

In addition, crews plan to pave the eastbound frontage road between Cortaro Road and Starcommerce Way starting the night of Friday, April 26. That will affect traffic on both Cortaro Road and the frontage road. Additional details will be released next week about this work.

The Town of Marana is nearing the completion of the paving portion of the Ina Beautification Project. The week of April 15 all of the paving on side streets north of Ina Road was completed and mainline final paving for Ina Road will begin the week of April 22. Expect heavy delays of up to an hour near work areas and avoid work areas if possible.

The paving will begin Monday, April 22 and be completed by Friday April 26, 2019 Ina road from Ulene Place to the Canada del Oro Bridge. Construction will begin at 6:00 A.M and continue through 6:00 P.M.

Striping and painting will begin Monday, April 29, but is not expected to cause any delays.

The Arizona Department of Transportation has opened all four ramps between Interstate 10 and Ina Road in Marana. The opening marks a significant milestone for the interchange reconstruction project that began in 2017.

Although the ramps are open, crews must complete final elements of the project. Lane restrictions are scheduled to continue for the next several weeks.

Ina Road is open with a single lane in each direction between Silverbell Road and Camino de las Capas.

The westbound frontage road between Orange Grove and Cortaro roads will remain closed for the time being.

Motorists on Interstate 10 and Ina Road in Marana will encounter various lane restrictions starting Monday, April 8, as crews begin the final work to prepare for the opening of the I-10/Ina Road interchange.

• Starting Monday, April 8, crews will begin paving Ina Road between Camino de las Capas and Silverbell Road. Work is scheduled between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. daily, including Saturday and Sunday, for about one week. Ina Road will remain open through the work zone, but drivers should expect flaggers, intermittent traffic shifts and delays. 

• On Monday, April 8, Camino de las Capas will close between Ina Road and Camino de Oeste for paving between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. Camino de Oeste will be open as a detour, however, a flagger will limit traffic on Camino de Oeste to a single direction at a time. Motorists should consider an alternate route. 

• Ina Road between Camino de las Capas and Silverbell Road will be reduced to a single lane with flaggers controlling traffic in a single direction at a time while crews remove temporary barriers from 8 p.m. Tuesday, April 9 to 5 a.m. Wednesday, April 10.

• I-10 will be reduced to a single lane in each direction between Orange Grove and Cortaro roads from 8 p.m. Wednesday, April 10, to 5 a.m. Thursday, April 11 so crews can remove temporary concrete barriers.

The I-10/Ina Road ramps are set to reopen to traffic in mid-April.

May 4 Ina Road Celebration Weekend to welcome community back to the corridor after reopening of Ina Interchange

MARANA – The Town of Marana is celebrating the reopening of the Ina Road Interchange with the “Ina Road Celebration Weekend” on May 4-5. Media and members of the public are invited to attend.

 The celebration weekend kicks off with an opening ceremony on Saturday, May 4, at 9 A.M. and features Marana Town Council and representatives from the Arizona Department of Transportation, Regional Transportation Authority, and Marana Chamber of Commerce. The ceremony will be located at the Lowe’s Home Improvement parking lot at 4075 W Ina Rd. The ceremony will then be followed by a weekend-long business block party located along Ina Road Corridor between Thornydale Road and the interstate.

The “Ina Road Celebration Weekend” is a collaboration between the Town of Marana and the Regional Transportation Authority, with support from the Marana Chamber of Commerce.

BACKGROUND

The celebration follows the near completion of two separate projects: the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) Ina Road Interchange project and the Town of Marana Ina Road Beautification project.

The Interstate 10/Ina Road Interchange improvement project required rerouting local street access to Interstate 10 to reconstruct a new interchange that stretches over the interstate and the Union Pacific railroad tracks and eliminates the at-grade crossing.  The project also included widening I-10, widening Ina Road to two lanes in each direction between Silverbell Road and Camino de la Cruz, reconstructing the frontage roads and building two Ina Road bridges over the Santa Cruz River. This project met the long-range planning objectives of ADOT, the Town of Marana, Pima County, Pima Association of Governments (PAG) and the Regional Transportation Authority (RTA) to improve interchange capacity, public safety, and operations. The Arizona Department of Transportation and Town of Marana managed the RTA plan-approved project.

The Town of Marana Ina Road Beautification Project was done in conjunction with the Ina Interchange project in an effort to improve portions of Ina Road. The project includes landscape, mill and pave, street light and traffic signal improvements along Ina Road between Camino de las Capas and the eastern Town limits. Arizona Department of Transportation is administering the work between Silverbell Road and Camino de las Capas.

UPDATE - Traffic Alert: Aerie Drive

UPDATE - Due to a construction delay final paving on Aerie Drive will begin on Friday, March 29 and conclude on Monday, April 1.

Aerie Drive  reconstruction will begin on Monday, March 25, 2019 through Monday, April 1, 2019. Construction crews will mill and repave the surface of the road. Expect lane closures and traffic delays.

For your safety and that of the contractor’s personnel, please comply with traffic control devices, flagging personnel, and/or detour signs.

Travel time through the project area may increase during construction so please adjust your schedule accordingly. Construction may restrict traffic lanes and create congestion. Taking alternate routes is suggested.

If inclement weather or other events cause delays, the work may be rescheduled without further notice.

UPDATE Traffic Alert: Overnight lane closures for Interstate 10 near Ina

Overnight lane closures set for Interstate 10 near Ina Road starting March 26

Motorists who use Interstate 10 near Ina Road should expect overnight lane closures starting Tuesday, March 26.

Lane closures are scheduled in the following locations:

• March 26 - Eastbound and westbound I-10 near Ina Road between 10 p.m. and 3 a.m.

• March 28 - Westbound I-10 near Ina Road between 8 p.m. Thursday and 5 a.m. Friday

• March 29 - The far right lane of both eastbound and westbound I-10 will be closed near Ina Road between 8 p.m Friday and 5 a.m. Saturday

The lane closures will allow crews to complete striping, move barriers and other work.

Drivers should proceed through the work zone with caution, slow down and watch for construction personnel and equipment.
