Officer Gerrie Tinsley and Police Chief Reuben Nunez
On Wednesday, January 26, the Marana Police Department honored Officer Geraldine Tinsley in a Retirement Ceremony for her years of service to the Marana community.
Officer Geraldine (Gerrie) Tinsley graduated from the Arizona Law Enforcement Training Academy in 1989. She began her career with the Benson Police Department and then the South Tucson Police Department, respectfully. In 1994, she was hired by the Marana Police Department.
Gerrie quickly excelled, becoming a valuable member to the Department. By 1996, she was assigned as a school resource officer and played an integral role in the development and implementation of the D.A.R.E. and G.R.E.A.T. programs for the Marana Unified School District. She established trust and commitment to the academic environment, and she gained trust and reliability with both the faculty and, most importantly, the students.
She served as an S.R.O. for over 14 years and taught at several schools, including Estes Elementary, Coyote Trails Elementary, Hendricks Elementary, Twin Peaks Elementary, and Marana Middle School. Over her career, she positively impacted the lives of several thousand students, parents, and school faculty.
Officer Tinsley has participated in many community-oriented events, such as the Special Olympics Torch Run, Tip A Cop, and volunteering her time with the Continental Ranch Little League and Marana High School Baseball and Cheer Programs.
Officer Tinsley was recognized several times for her hard work and dedication. In 2002, she served as Treasurer for the Arizona D.A.R.E. Association Executive Board. In 2009, she received the Chief’s Citation for Professional Excellence, and in 2012 she received the Department’s Medal of Merit.
Gerrie enjoys spending time with her husband David, sons David Jr. and Nicholas, daughter Kristen, and grandson Little David. They enjoy camping and attending NASCAR races.
