PRESS RELEASE: Marana Seeks Public Input on Improvements to Parks and Programs

MARANA – The Town of Marana wants to know what improvements or expansions residents and park users would like to see in the town’s parks, trail systems and recreation programs over the next decade.

Marana’s Parks and Recreation Department will host a series of three public meetings in late January and early February to help shape the Town of Marana Parks and Recreation Master Plan, which will guide improvements to parks and programs through 2030.

The meetings, to be held in three different areas of Marana – Gladden Farms/San Lucas, Continental Ranch and Dove Mountain – will give attendees the chance to share their ideas for improving the existing parks system, adding new parks, and expanding recreation programs. The master plan will address the entire Marana parks and trail systems, while looking individually at each of the unique areas of the town.

Marana Parks and Recreation staff and members of the study team will be available to provide information about the study and the existing parks system and receive input on potential improvements to developed parks, natural parks and preserves, linear parks and hiking trails and recreation programs, in addition to exploring the potential for a new facilities, including a potential new recreation center and aquatic facilities.

The meetings dates and locations are:

  • Thursday, Jan. 23 at Wheeler Taft Abbett Library, 7800 N. Schisler Drive

  • Wednesday, Jan. 29 at Dove Mountain K-8 C-STEM school, 5650 W. Moore Road

  • Thursday, Feb. 6 at the Marana Police Department, Community Room, 11555 W. Civic Center Drive

Each meeting will begin at 6 p.m. and will include a brief presentation before attendees visit information stations for each type of park facility and for recreation programs. Comment forms and surveys will be available to provide input. Attendees will be invited to mark up large maps of the community to identify desired improvements at existing parks and locations for potential new parks.

Public engagement for this phase of the master plan will be ongoing through mid-February. A second round of public involvement will gather input on the draft plan.
